We played a little, learned about cafeteria and playground behavior, and then read a few more books (Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten and The Kissing Hand). If any of your kiddos try to kiss your palm, ask them to retell the story of Chester the Racoon and the kissing hand. Hopefully that will give you some context :)
Thank you all for sending in snacks! The kids were ravenous by 10:15 :)
After reading Rocking In My School Shoes with Pete the Cat, we toured the school, looking for Pete, in the afternoon. We saw the gym (where we will have P.E. 3x a week), the office, the music room (we will see Mrs. Workman 2-3x a week), the computer lab (which we will go to 2-3 times a week), and the library (where we get to check out books once a week). The school can seem overwhelming at first, but I'm always shocked how quickly the kids figure it out.
We went over some class procedures today as well. Each week, the kids have a different classroom job. It contributes to the community atmosphere and genuinely helps things get done! We learned about some of the jobs and practiced them. We also talked about our daily folders (which will go home tomorrow). The kiddos first responsibility in kindergarten is to bring their daily folder to and from school each day.
Overall, it was an AWESOME day. I'm so proud of how well the kids did and I'm looking forward to Day 2! I'll leave you with a picture of Eli, who felt about the same as I did once school had ended:
