Meet the Masters
Today we had our first Meet the Masters art class! If you aren't familar with Meet the Masters, this is an art program that is organized and run completely by volunteers/families at our school! The students learn about a master artist and get to make an art piece in the style of that artist. Today the kids learned about Joan Miro. Thank you so much to Mrs. Riggar and Mrs. Steele for making this fun project happen! If any other family members are interested in assisting for the next Meet the Master project, contact Mrs. Riggar. Setup to cleanup, it typically takes an hour or less!
Here a few pictures from today:

Pumpkin Investigation!
This month we did a pumpkin investigation! The children kept journals where they wrote about and recorded all the things we did with pumpkins. Unit studies are a great way to incorporate a variety of disciplines- reading, writing, math and science!
Weread nonfiction and fiction books about pumpkins. We made diagrams of the parts of a pumpkin and it's lifecycle. We made estimates about the weight, circumference, height, and number of seeds in our pumpkins. We felt the inside and outside of the pumpkins and used adjectives to describe how they felt. After we measured, weighed, and counted the seeds of the pumpkin- we evaluated our estimates (too short, too tall, etc). We put the seeds in groups of ten to practice skip counting. The entire unit was a lot of fun! Here are pictures of the kids during different phases of the investigation.
The kids had a lot of fun and learned a lot! I hope you enjoy the pictures :)
